Flea Control
Flea
Control in the Environment
Treating
the house and garden is one of the most important steps in effective flea
control. For every flea that
is found on your pet, there are literally hundreds, maybe thousands in the
environment.
Indoor
Flea Control
Vacuum your carpets and furniture
thoroughly before treating the premises. After vacuuming, throw away or place moth balls or a
flea collar into the vacuum bag.
Products to control fleas in the house include, sprays and
foggers. Some house sprays contain
Methoprene which is a safe, and highly effective environmental flea-growth
regulator that prevents maturation of larvae and pupae into adult
fleas. Foggers usually contain
organophophates, permethrins, or synergized natural pyrethrins. Some may contain methoprene. We recommend using Americare
Fogger® for your
pets environmental flea control.
Outdoor
Flea Control
Begin outdoor treatment by removing all
organic matter by raking, mowing and discarding any debris. Apply sprays throughout yard, but
pay special attention to your pet¡¦s favorite
resting places such as dog houses or beds, beneath or on the porch, in the
garage, under shade trees, or in the family car, some products have special
nozzle attachments for the hose for diluting the insecticides and covering
large areas. Most effective
outdoor sprays have the active ingredient malathion and some contain
methoprene.

Flea control for your Pet
Effective
flea control for your pets includes an oral tablet taken monthly or when
needed. Program® for cats and dogs
have been in the market for years.
They are useful if the flea population is low and inactive. Capstar® another
oral tablet actually kills the fleas within 30 minutes when taken, but the
effect wears off soon and if your pet is often out on walks or takes
regular trips to the pet shop for grooming then you will need something
stronger and more longer lasting.
There are a number of topspot products in the market specially designed
for your pets. We recommend
the following:
Frontline® Topspot
For Cats
and Dog. A monthly application
is required for effective flea control. And bi-weekly for the control of ticks.
Revolution®
Frontline® spray is also
very effective for killing fleas instantly. For kittens and puppies less than 3 months old, it is
very safe and effective.
